Collect it, cook it, share it.

Import a recipe from anywhere

Share a webpage link, YouTube or Instagram video, or even a photo of a cookbook page or magazine. Sous will read it and use her experience to turn complex, multi-stage recipes into a straightforward, step-by-step, easy to follow guided cooking experience. She'll even recommend matching drinks for a perfect pairing!

As you cook, you'll build your own collection of dishes, complete with photos, notes and ratings. Collect your recipes in your library; highlight your favourites, see notes and reviews from Sous, and track progress from previous cooks.

Sous coaches you through it

Sous talks you through your imported recipes, step by step, giving you hints and tips along the way. Cooking dishes you love has never been easier.

She'll give you guidance on when a stage is complete, set and manage multiple timers to take the stress out of parallel tasks, and break down complex combinations (like marinades or rubs) into simple, easy steps with checklists. She'll also explain what to look for at each stage - what things should look, smell, and sound like - rather than just reading instructions, so you know exactly when things are done.

Sous is a button-press away from any questions you have about ingredients, techniques, or problems. Ask her anything - she's always there to help!

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Everything you might want to know before your first cook with tāstium.

What types of recipes does tāstium support?

tāstium works with any recipe in any format — a URL from a food website, a YouTube video, an Instagram or TikTok Reel, a screenshot, or a photo of a cookbook or recipe card.  You're never limited to a specific catalogue or platform. If you've found a recipe somewhere, tāstium and Sous can turn it into a guided cook session. We are super keen to hear feedback, so if you find a recipe that Sous can't read then let us know!

Does tāstium work offline?

An internet connection is required to import a recipe and to run a guided cooking session with Sous. Once a session is underway, tāstium is designed to run smoothly without interruption. We recommend importing your recipe and starting the session before you begin prepping — this ensures everything is loaded and ready before your hands are occupied.

Do I need to touch the screen while cooking?

Occasionally, yes. tāstium is a step-by-step voice guide, not a fully automated system. Each step is read aloud by Sous. When you're ready to move to the next step, you tap the screen once to advance. If you want to ask a question mid-cook, you hold the screen and speak. The screen stays on throughout the session so it's always available with a single tap — but you're not reading from it, you're hearing each step and tapping to move on.

How is tāstium different from just using Siri?

tāstium's cooking coach Sous guides you one step at a time, reads each stage aloud, and waits for your tap before moving on. If you have a question, hold to ask and Sous answers without losing her place in the recipe. Timers are set automatically. The difference is between a voice assistant that responds to commands and a coach that structures the entire cook. Siri can set a timer or read you a recipe from the web — but it reads the whole thing at once, with no pacing and no ability to answer follow-up questions.

What cooking skill level is it designed for?

tāstium is most useful for home cooks who are building confidence — people who cook regularly or want to cook more, but find the experience of following a recipe stressful or frustrating.  That includes complete beginners and intermediate cooks expanding what they're comfortable making. More experienced cooks can use it too, particularly for unfamiliar recipes or cuisines where they want the structured guidance.

Is tāstium free?

tāstium offers a free tier that lets you import and cook from a set number of recipes per month. A paid plan unlocks unlimited sessions, additional features, and priority access to new capabilities. Full pricing details are in the pricing section.

Can I import recipes from Instagram or YouTube?

Yes. Paste the URL of an Instagram Reel, TikTok, or YouTube video into tāstium and Sous will read it.  The reels & videos do need to be publicly accessible.  Social media recipes are often written for visual impact rather than instructional clarity - Sous is sous-per clever but may struggle with extremely short videos.

Who is Sous?

Sous is your personal AI cooking coach; her name is a nod to the sous chef role in a professional kitchen; the person responsible for preparation, timing, and keeping the cook running smoothly.  Sous reads your recipe and turns it into a step-by-step guide, narrates each step of your recipe aloud, waits for you to tap before advancing, sets timers automatically, and answers questions when you hold to ask.   She'll explain what to look for at each stage - what things should look, smell, and sound like - rather than just reading instructions.

Which devices does tāstium run on?

tāstium is currently an iOS app, available on iPhone. iPad support is in development. An Android version is on the roadmap. Sign up to be notified when new platforms are available.
